Just hours are left before the start of IBU Cup Final in Khanty-Mansiysk. The Alexander Filipenko Winter Sports Center looks ready for the event.
The volunteers of Ugra State University have started their work yearly in the morning. Most of them are responsible for checking accreditation cards of people on the stadium and making sure that nobody is breaking the access rules.
“We are working on biathlon competitions for the third time. First we were working on the North stand, next – on the track in the forest and now we are here. Our work starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m., we don’t allow the trespassers to go here, – said volunteers sipping their hot tee from thermos, – We are hoping Russian athletes will get some medals too. Even bronze will be ok. They didn’t participate in the Olympics, so now it is a chance to show their strength on their homeland”.
Close to them the track workers are fixing signs and advertizing banners, installing time split boxes. Cameramen look busy as well: tomorrow the hostbroadcaster of the event – TV and Radio Company “Ugra” – is going to do live broadcasting of the competition in HD format with 17 cameras. Live transmission and recorded competitions are going to be broadcasted in TV Channel “MATCH! Nash Sport” (“MATCH! Our Sport”).
Live is boiling on the track of the Winter Sport Center where biathletes from 19 countries start their first trainings. Morning in Khanty-Mansiysk is cool and well-known northern winds make you feel freezing. But for athletes who came all the way here from Uvat those low temperatures are not scary.
Decorated themselves with bright protective plasters, the participants of the competition began to practice their shooting and skiing.
Athletes as well as their coaches are too busy for chitchatting. Before the first race in Khanty-Mansiysk – the debut of Super Sprint in the official IBU calendar – it is very important to keep their shooting perfect: in such a short race it is very important to shoot clean.
For those who will be among the audience it is also time to get ready. The aim of every biathlon fan is to get bright flags and loud drums and pipes and, of course, a good and positive mood. Entrance to all the races is free of charge. Tickets are sold only for the North stand. They cost 100 rubles per each competition day (appr. 1,5 eur). By the way, true biathlon fans do not need to wait one more day before the event to start. The official opening ceremony of IBU Cup Final will take place today in the theater and convert center “Ugra-Classic” at 7 p.m. The entrance is free of charge.
